  1. Is it recommended to use scented sanitary pads and tampons?

On average, women have over 400 menstrual periods in their life time. This means, that during this time, we use a lot of hygiene products. Therefore, it is very important that we pay attention to what products we insert into our body, every month, for several years. The best products are those made from 100 % natural cotton, with no plastic, no super absorbents and other artificial substances that may be harmful. Perfumes, which are present in some products for feminine hygiene, are also artificial materials, which can upset the natural vaginal flora and cause various inflammations and irritations, therefore their use is not recommended. Natural is always the best for your body.
  2. Do sanitary pads and tampons have an expiration date?

Sanitary pads and tampons do not have any expiration date. Lunay products are made from 100 % natural cotton and cotton does not “spoil”. Nevertheless, it is important to store sanitary pads and tampons in their original packaging and not, for example, on open shelves, in a purse, etc. If stored improperly, they can build-up dust, dirt and bacteria, which can then be transferred into the vagina and cause discomfort. To conclude, sanitary pads and tampons made from 100 % cotton have no expiration date, but it is very important that they are stored properly.
  3. What does the term superabsorbent mean?

A superabsorbent is a highly absorbent material or substance. Superabsorbents, that are usually used in hygiene products, are in most cases artificial substances (polymers), which increase the absorbency of a product. They are usually found in the form of small particles, that resemble sugar, which absorb liquid and turn it into gel or gelatin. They are very commonly used in name brand baby diapers and can be easily identified. Similar superabsorbents are also used by manufacturers of women hygiene products. Lunay products do not contain artificial superabsorbents, because they are made from 100 % natural cotton, which is very absorbent by itself and does not require additional absorbents.

  4. What does the term hypoallergenic mean?

Hygiene products, that are hypoallergenic, have a very small chance of causing irritations of the skin or other hypersensitive reactions. A hypersensitive reaction is an allergic reaction to a certain irritant substance, which can cause skin inflammation and itching. In women hygiene products these types of irritant substances can be different chemicals and artificial substances, that come in contact with the skin (perfumes, superabsorbents, chlorine, dioxin and plastic). We can reduce the probability of allergic reactions and skin irritations by using hypoallergenic products.
  5. Why must cotton go through the purifying process?

Cotton is a natural fiber, known to man for thousands of years and still widely used today. It is naturally very absorbent, hypoallergenic, soft to the touch and allows the skin to breathe. That is why Lunay products are made from 100 percent natural cotton.

Even though natural cotton has excellent qualities, it must be cleaned before incorporated into products. When it is picked, it contains, in addition to cotton fibers, particles of the remaining part of the plant and other impurities, therefore it has to be cleaned. Also, only a few people are aware, that cotton is covered with a layer of natural wax, which protects it from rain. This layer dies the cotton slightly yellow and reduces its absorbency, because the oily layer repels liquids. This means, that this raw, unprocessed cotton is unsuitable for several products, including those for feminine hygiene, which have to be clean and absorbent.

However, the method of cleaning is very important. There are several processes of cleaning and bleaching. One of them is bleaching with chlorine, which is not recommended. If the cotton is cleaned and purified with chlorine, carcinogenic dioxin is produced, which then remains present in the products. Another way to purify is to use hydrogen peroxide, which does not produce dioxin and is harmless. In the purifying process using hydrogen peroxide refiners remove a layer of wax or grease from the cotton. With this the natural white colour of the wax appears and the material becomes absorbent.

The cotton in Lunay products is purified exclusively with hydrogen peroxide and is 100 percent natural, which is confirmed with this Seal of Cotton.

  6. How do I properly dispose of feminine hygiene products?

Feminine hygiene products, just like baby diapers, are disposed in containers for residual waste.

  7. Can I get pregnant during my menstruation?

Yes, you can, so make sure you use protection.

  10. Can I go swimming during my menstruation?

Yes, you can. We recommend the use of tampons for that.

  11. How often do I need to change tampons?

During the first few days of menstruation, when it is the strongest, we recommend that you change the tampon every three to four hours. During the night and the last few days of menstruating we recommend that you change it every four to eight hours. When using tampons make sure they’re absorbent enough for your needs. Mini tampons are suitable for weaker menstruation, normal for moderate and super for stronger menstruation.
